Cortina, as a self-taught artist, represents a unique convergence of cultural influences and personal experiences. Her trajectory, marked by travel and migration, allows her to explore themes that are deeply relevant today. Each work she creates can be seen as a testimony of her life and the stories she has encountered along the way.
Her focus on systematic violence and femicides is particularly significant in a context where these issues are often minimized or ignored. Through her art, Cortina seeks to give voice to the victims and raise awareness about the urgency of justice. This not only implies a critique of the system that perpetuates impunity, but also a celebration of the resilience of affected communities.
Cortina, in her role as an artist and activist, uses multiple media to express her vision and experience. Her art is not only limited to illustration and tattooing, but extends to the creation of murals, exhibitions and community projects. Each of these spaces becomes a platform to address issues of identity, migration, and women’s struggles in contexts of violence.
